YDR History

Minecraft is getting its first new dimension in over a decade. You can be sure there will be a YDR SMP to explore this monumental update once it drops!

The first YouDiedRespawn Discord server was founded on January 23, 2022. Informal YDR servers/events had taken pace prior to this, but it's considered to be the official YDR birthday. Participate in festivities, minigames, lockout, and a walk through YDR history.

The lockout data pack is succeeded by Marin's lockout-fabric mod, which had been under heavy modification all summer. We integrated the lockout stats website and brought the mod up-to-date with Minecraft 26.3. Thanks to all the beta testers who helped test new features and goals!

Originally started as a fun little survival world after a lockout, this server grew into a full SMP with lore. It was active for about two weeks.

Twilight was the first YDR SMP in a very long time. Inspired by Solace, we decided the time was ripe for another two-week Minecraft phase. Twilight burned bright and faded quickly, as many players disliked the extreme difficulty of the mobs.

An old classic minigame returns for a week or two.

YDR switches back to self-hosting with a new server powerered by a Ryzen 9 7950X.

Nothing but lockout! YDR becomes primarily a lockout community. Only Truffle, BeanBoi, JOSBOISEPH, and AzA play lockouts for an entire year until January of 2026 when lockout gained more than 20 new players. The lockout business has been booming ever since!

We play some chess.

JOSBOISEPH and BeanBoi34 play this masterpiece of an escape room map made by Infernally. Later on, other pairs of players attempted to beat their time. You can try the map for yourself here!

Lockout finally returns to YDR. Since the SmallAnt mod was still on 1.19 and had been dormant for so long, Truff1e created a custom lockout data pack which enabled vanilla compatibility. 30 games were played in August, more than had been played in the last 20 months combined.

The Flotilla community departs YDR.

What better way to start the summer than with a new SMP on a brand new Minecraft version?

A week-long server on a oneblock world. This SMP is famous for the "Shitty Stories" book.

Despite its name, this server had nothing to do with sex.

Shattered Kingdom was a very unique SMP. The server was split into two territories and teams: positive and negative. Weekly events brought new loot into the world via custom structures built by Truffle and JOSBOISEPH. Players weren't allowed to travel to enemy territory unless a PvP event was active. This server also featured a lot of custom mechanics like trim effects, and weapon bindings, that Truffle created specifically for Shattered Kingdom. You can find the data pack here.

Terrascape was built off of mostly the same mods as Cubescape.

YDR hosted a few games of lockout over the summer in 2023. Games in this era tended to last nearly two hours each. Towards the end of the season lockout fell out of popularity thanks to the endermite incident, which eventually lead to the permanent departure of one of YDR's most notable players, ElytraSuperCat.

JOSBOISEPH2 and Truffle team up on a very ambitious worldgen data pack project. Endless Desert featured many custom structures and and a hydration mechanic. Despite making some promotional videos, the SMP for Endless Desert never got off the ground. The data pack is still available to download on Modrinth.

A new version was released, and a good number of people were interested in exploring it. While there was nothing special about the 1.20 SMP, it was pretty iconic.

Possibly one of the most successful Truffle data packs, Ultracore aimed to extend the lifetime of SMPs by stunting progression with an extreme game difficulty. While it didn't end up lasting much longer than a normal SMP, it was a fun and memorable challenge. The data pack is still available to download for 1.19.

WorldClassPanda and Truff1e spent some time working on a capture the flag data pack which was known for its "Diarrhea Island" map. This game has largely been forgotten.

As its name ironically suggests, most of the information about this SMP has been lost to time. It didn't last very long and was similar to Cubescape.

The massive Ultimate Survival World project by TrixyBlox was the map for this SMP, which lasted a good while and was quite fun to explore.

Lockout was invented by SmallAnt and the first ever YDR lockout games were played on the official Forge mod for 1.18.

Very little activity on YDR. Mostly minigame sessions on the MCC Island Beta.

Stoneworks Era on The Flotilla - Most YDR regulars played there instead.

The biggest SMP to date, notable for the famous "Hovering Inferno Incident" which marked the end of this SMP.

YDR held some Minecraft events and minigames including Truffle creations like Deadline, Lava Rising, etc.

A departure from Vanilla. This server used a collection of data packs, including Stardust Labs' incredibly impressive Terralith, Incendium, and Nullscape projects.

The second season of Lifesteal on YDR.

YDR expands from 5 members to more than 10, and the Discord server is established.

The first ever YDR server, powered by a mail server with 2gb of RAM. This server would nearly crash anytime you went to the nether, but was home to many happy (and some not so happy) memories.

The origins of YDR are a small group of people playing Cubecraft Eggwars on Bedrock Edition.
